The 2020 Vision For a Wilder Britain project is an inspiring endeavor whose goal is — through a variety of multimedia projects — "to communicate the link between the restoration of the UK's natural systems and our own well being". The project brings together 20 or the UK's top outdoor photographers together with leading scientists, writers, film makers, sound engineers and designers to create the most ambitious photography-based communication ever staged in Britain.
Spearheaded by the Wild Media Foundation, 2020 Vision is about communicating the value of healthy ecosystems and their relationship to healthy humans. They've identified 20 projects that are currently restoring, reconnecting, or at the very least protecting damaged habitats or species in the UK. Wild Media Foundation's mission is to develop "intelligent media products" that build awareness of "the value of nature in all our lives". For 20 months these media professionals will visit 20 key environmental and conservation projects identified by 2020 Vision and document the ongoing restoration, rehabilitation, or protection work being done.
An interesting inclusive aspect of the project is that working along side the media professionals will be a team of "2020 Vision Young Champions" who will create their own images and stories which will be shared with their friends, school mates, colleagues, family and local communities.
In our increasingly digitally attuned and media savvy world, there are many, many projects we have access to which help to keep us inspired. We need such inspiration to fortify our resolve as we deal with the mundane, daily tasks that lay ahead in the performance of our missions.
2020 Vision is sure to be one such project whose work will inspire us for years to come. Be sure to keep checking in at their site as their important work progresses.
